It is important to create a creative bend in the mind of our youth

If the 3 are integrated in an optimum manner, it will allow India to enjoy an edge over the other economies from the point of view of technology.

This in turn would also allow students to have an innovative bent of mind. This can be achieved by introducing newer academic curricula in the business management education system so that students remain informed about the latest technological developments that are taking place worldwide.

The former chairman spoke at length about the education scenario in India and how to improve it at the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology as he was speaking at Prof V.G Bhide Memorial lecture.

This is a serious concern that in India, students don’t make use of education, research, and technology simultaneously. In fact, it is important that knowledge should be translated to research and research into newer products and developing technical know-how. It is also to be stated that the colleges and the universities in India should not only aim at awarding degrees to students but should make sure that the education earned can be applied in real life.

The course curricula should essentially be research oriented. When asked about India not producing too many Nobel laureates in the field of Science, he said that the main reason is that there are very few instances when original work is available. In order that there is more number of original piece of work, it is important to boost research and innovation in the country. The former chairperson of Atomic Energy Commission cited few examples that can be incorporated in the education system of India.

Introducing virtual universities in the country quite same as Homi Bhabha National Institute can to a great extent help students. Also the concept of affiliated colleges can be changed as it is in the case of China, where students grow up without the affiliated college concept. The education system is quite different in China where there are individual university campuses and every university has a Science Park of its own. These campuses mostly have residential students.
